About

Kevin Nelson is the author of 18 books. His latest is Wheels of Change: From Zero to 600 MPH, The Amazing Story of California and the Automobile, which has been nominated for writing prizes in history and automotive journalism.

His previous book was Operation Bullpen: The Inside Story of the Biggest Forgery Scam in American History. A highly acclaimed work of investigative reporting, Operation Bullpen is now under development to be a movie. It has been featured on ESPN and Tru-TV, and is part of a planned 2011 exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown about forgery.

Another acclaimed book of Nelson's, The Golden Game: The Story of California Baseball, was named one of the top ten books of 2004 by the San Francisco Chronicle, National Public Radio, and many others. It was a finalist for the prestigious Seymour Prize, awarded annually to the best baseball book of the year, and was the subject of a documentary shown on public television stations around the U.S.

In addition to his books, Nelson has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, West Magazine, DadMag.com, Autograph Magazine, California History Quarterly The Runner, and more. His work has received glowing reviews in Publishers Weekly, Sports Illustrated, People, LA Observed, New York Daily News, Oakland Tribune, and many more.

The father of four, Nelson is a strong believer in the importance of fathers being actively involved in the lives of their children. His popular advice book for expectant fathers, The Everything Father-to-Be Book: A Survival Guide for Men, has become a parenting classic, and a new, updated second edition of it will be out in 2010.

Furthermore, Nelson's The Runner's Book of Daily Inspiration is now in its ninth printing. It has been translated into Dutch and become a perennial bestseller for runners, inspiring them to achieve their goals in the sport.

Born in Arizona, Nelson has lived most of his life in California. He grew up in Hayward in the East Bay, majored in English Literature at the University of California at Los Angeles, and spent a good portion of his wayward youth trooping around Yosemite and the High Sierra. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with his wife and children.
